Introduction
We are pleased to invite submissions for a forthcoming book titled AI and Information Literacy in the 21st Century. This book aims to explore the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and information literacy in the digital age. The book will cover key aspects such as the impact of AI on information access and evaluation, ethical considerations, and the societal implications of AI on information management.
Objective
The book aims to provide a comprehensive resource on how AI is transforming information literacy, offering readers critical perspectives on AI technologies, their applications in information management, and the skills required to navigate and assess vast information landscapes. It will be valuable for students, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers interested in AI and information literacy.
Target Audience
This book will primarily serve as course material for students studying AI and information literacy and will also be of interest to:
- Researchers in AI, data science, information management, and education.
- Practitioners working in fields of digital information management.
- Educators involved in AI and information literacy education.
- Policymakers interested in the societal and ethical impacts of AI technologies.

Chapter 3: Information Literacy Skills

- Overview of big data and its characteristics (volume, velocity, variety, veracity).

Chapter 6: AI and Information Literacy in Education
- Integration of AI tools in teaching and learning: personalized learning, adaptive learning platforms.
- Enhancing information literacy skills through AI-based platforms and resources.
- Future trends in AI and education: AI tutors, virtual classrooms, AI helpdesks, AI guidance and counseling.
Chapter 7: Case Studies and Practical Applications
- Analysis of real-world AI applications in information management (e.g., healthcare, finance, marketing).
- Hands-on exercises using AI tools for information retrieval and analysis.
- Group projects on developing AI-based solutions for information literacy challenges.
Chapter 8: Final Project Presentation and Discussion
- Presentation of group projects: AI-based solutions for information literacy challenges.
- Reflection on the course and discussion of future implications of AI in information literacy.
Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit an extended abstract or chapter proposal of 1,000 to 1,500 words by October 15, 2024, clearly outlining the mission and focus of their proposed chapter. Authors will be notified of their proposal status by October 25, 2024 and will receive chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by November 30, 2024.
All manuscripts will be subject to a double-anonymized peer review process. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers.

Publisher
This book is scheduled to be published by the Department of Computer Science, School of Computing, Miva Open University in Abuja. The book’s release is planned for March 2025..
