About the Speaker:
Akintunde Oyebode is an Economist, passionate about sustainable development, finance, investment and youth employment. He began his career as a Research Assistant at the Lagos Business School and spent over a decade in various banking roles with First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and Stanbic IBTC Bank where he was the Country Head of SME Banking. He was also the pioneer Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) where he led the development of programmes that provided loans of over N6 billion to 10,000 beneficiaries, employability training for 5,000 unemployed Lagosians with job placement to almost 2,000 people, and workspace vouchers for 100 startups. During his time at LSETF, the institution supported the creation of 100,000 jobs in 3 years, leading to a verifiable reduction in Lagos State’s unemployment rate, despite an overall increase in unemployment across Nigeria.
In March 2020, Akin voluntarily left his role at LSETF, and was subsequently appointed as Special Adviser to the Governor of Ekiti on Investment, Trade and Innovations; and Director-General of the Ekiti State Development and Investment Promotion Agency. In this role, he was responsible for Ekiti State’s investment promotion activities and business environment reforms. He led the attraction of investment announcements of over $2 billion in less than two years. Akin is currently the Honourable Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development of the Ekiti State.
