We are thrilled to announce that Miva Open University, a part of the uLesson Group, has received an Open Distance eLearning License from Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council. This significant milestone was shared by our CEO and Founder, Sim Shagaya, on his social media pages.
Launched in 2023, Miva Open University has been a long-planned initiative, coming four years after the inception of uLesson. Our university offers a range of undergraduate courses, including Computer Science, Cyber Security, Data Science, Software Engineering, Public Policy and Administration, Economics, Accounting, and Business Management.
In our continuous effort to expand and cater to diverse educational needs, we are planning to introduce courses in nursing and law. This expansion will place us in healthy competition with institutions like AltSchool and Nexford University.
The establishment of Miva Open University comes at a crucial time. In 2022, 1.8 million candidates registered for the examination administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB). Unfortunately, historical data suggests that at least half of these candidates will not gain admission to universities in the country.
Miva Open University aims to bridge this gap, providing quality education to those who may not have access to traditional university spaces. By operating largely online, we can accommodate more students without the need for physical infrastructure. We are excited about this journey and look forward to shaping the future of education in Nigeria.
